Job description:

The successful candidate will have a track record of operational excellence managing large scale production databases utilizing one or more of the following (MongoDB, Cloudera, Hortonworks, HBase, Cassandra). You will have excellent communication skills, a keen attention to detail, and a passion for learning new technology and building high quality, scalable software.

Responsibilities

Ensuring the continuous availability of several MongoDB and Hadoop clusters
Evaluating and Operationaizing new technology
Automating and innovating new ways to manage database infrastructure
Manage and maintain servers across multiple environment
Advise development teams on clustering, indexing and other performance and architecture issues
Monitor deployments for capacity and performance
Implement and maintain MMS (MongoDB Management Services)
Define and implement backup strategies per data retention requirements
Admin MongoDB to achieve 100% monthly availability
Solve production problems when needed 24×7
Develop and document best practices for data migration
Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment with a broad scope of responsibilities
Ability to work seamlessly as part of a multi-site, multicultural development team
Self-motivated, passionate about software, and driven to achieve

Qualification and Skills Required

Strong operational experience with NoSQL Data Modeling
Minimum 5+ years of experience working with large distributed database systems with focus on performance & tuning
2+ years of experience with MongoDB scaling across data centers and/or in-depth understanding of MongoDB HA strategies, including replica sets and sharding
Deep knowledge of DB performance/scaling concepts and tuning best practices
Ability to write and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts
Familiarity with map-reduce in a production NoSQL environment
Experience with the Atlassian Software Development and Collaboration Tools (Jira, Confluence)
Experience with Big Data ecosystem tools is a plus
Able to straddle traditional operational and database admin roles
Highly self-motivated with the desire to embrace new database technologies and must be able to work independently or within a team in a high demand and dynamic environment
Experience with automation (Chef/Puppet)
Familiarity with distributed file systems (HDFS, GlusterFS/GridFS2, etc.)
Experience supporting cloud based environments AWS is a plus
Experience with traditional SQL databases (i.e. MSSQL) is a plus
Experience porting body of SQL code to a NoSQL environment (map-reduce or other) is a plus
JavaScript programming is a plus
Strong team player with excellent written and verbal skills
