Every day billions of people use the World Wide Web to read, write and share information. The web has changed over the past few years, and its current applications are nearly unrecognizable from its early days. This evolution of the web is frequently divided into three stages: Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0. You must have heard the buzzword “blockchain” technology or “bitcoin”. And World Wide Web (WWW) is already known to us. Web 3.0 which is also known as Web 3 is an idea for a new iteration of the World Wide Web (WWW) based on blockchain technology. In the early days, the read-only web was developed which is being considered Web 1. Later, the internet became more interactive with some read-write features and an important feature called Social media. It is said to be Web 2. And now, this is Web 3 era. But what exactly is Web 3? What are the features of Web 3? And what are the advantages of Web 3? We are going to see all you need to know about Web 3 in this article.
What is Web 3.0?
After a read-only web known as Web 1.0 and a read-write web named Web 2.0, the new version of the web is Web 3.0 which is going to be a read-write-execute web. In Web 1.0 data and content were supplied from a static file system rather than a database. In Web 1.0, even the interaction was very less. Web 2.0 is the current version of the web where anyone can participate in the creation process. One need not be a developer to participate in the creation process. Web 3.0, also known as Semantic Web, is the era that alludes to the web’s future. Web 3.0 is a new version of the web which is based on blockchain technology. Blockchain is a system that records the information in such a way that it becomes very difficult or almost impossible to hack or change it. It is also known as a “Distributed Ledger”. With the help of Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence computers can analyze data the same as humans do. The main focus of previous versions was on tagging and end-user experience, but in Web 3.0, the main focus will be on user empowerment through privacy and security. The driving technologies in the previous version were HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and AJAX. Web 3.0 will be based on the technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Blockchain technology. Web 3.0 will make use of 3D graphics as well.

I. Decentralization of Data:
In a decentralized web, individuals will be able to control their data. Decentralization of data networks makes it easier for the data producers to sell or exchange data without losing ownership.
II. Artificial Intelligence:
AI helps in distinguishing the data as real and fake. With the help of AI, analyzing the data and personalizing the results become easier. Hence, websites can filter and offer the best results to the users as it helps in providing faster and more relevant data to the users.
III. 3D Graphics:
Web 3.0 websites make efficient use of 3D graphics not only in games but also in healthcare areas, e-commerce, geographical settings, the real estate market, and other applications.
IV. Ubiquity/Metaverse:
Ubiquity term refers to the concept of being present in multiple places simultaneously. With the help of this feature, the internet is made accessible to everyone anywhere and anytime.
Advantages of Web 3.0
1. More data with more privacy and security can be shared by humans and enterprises. The end-users will regain complete ownership and control of their data and have the security of encryption.
2. One of the best advantages of Web 3.0 is that anyone can access the data from anywhere in the world. It ensures that the user can have access to the information as much as possible.
3. There will be minimum service disruption, as there is no single point of failure. The data will be stored on the distributed nodes to ensure redundancy. Besides, multiple backups will be there to prevent server failure.
4. No individual can control the identities of others. A trusted platform is provided by the blockchains like Ethereum. In this technology, the data is fully encrypted, also the rules are unbreakable.
Though there are benefits like efficient searching and browsing, and efficient interaction; some drawbacks or challenges have to be faced. Most importantly developing Web 3.0 in practical is pretty complex. Less advanced devices will not be able to handle Web 3.0. And it will be a bit difficult to understand for newcomers. Besides, inconsistent data can lead to logical contradiction and unpredictive analysis. Though AI will help in filtering the data, if all the provided data is misleading, it can become a huge problem.

It’s possible to create web3 applications without the metaverse being involved — Bitcoin is one example. There are many applications of Web 3.0 such as Sapien, Bitcoin, Everledger, etc.
