In his current role at American Express, Sankara Narayanan is responsible for leading the CoE teams located at their Gurgaon and Bangalore centers. The responsibilities of CoE teams encompass all credit and fraud risk functions, across the customer lifecycle from new accounts to collections, and all consumer and commercial products globally.
He also has functional responsibilities for limit strategy across the international commercial portfolios in addition to developing early warning triggers and generating insightful analytics on the global commercial portfolios.
Sankara joined American Express as a manager in the OPEN Collections Risk Management in New York in 1998. Since then he has held roles of increasing responsibilities across Small Business and the Global Commercial Portfolios spanning virtually all credit risk functions. In 2017, he relocated to Gurgaon, India, assuming the role of vice president for Global Customer Management Decision Science. He led the team to substantially elevate the company’s machine learning and modeling capabilities within a short period, particularly in collections.
Outside of work, Sankara is at his happiest when he is beginning vacations involving international travel or when he is reading up on everything available on the internet involving history, politics and sports.
