DataHour: Data Science Use Cases - Part 2

About the Event

The biggest issue today in the world of data science is the disparity between the work of a data analyst and the ML expert in an organization. The data analyst is focussed on reporting, visualization, storytelling and has subject matter expertise. The ML expert is more of the statistics, mathematical, modeling guru who builds models to be deployed.

In this DataHour, Vijay has brought together quite a few use cases from his consulting, startup and hackathon experience on how to bring explainability to data analysis via data mining be it for exploratory analysis or classification problems. He attempts to bridge the gap between analysts and machine learning experts using data mining. Data mining is not just about beer and diapers. In the last use case, he will talk about automated root cause analysis in large scale distributed systems using data mining and statistics. The use cases are from real life data sets. The results are mind boggling. Through this DataHour, Vijay will answer some compelling questions that could lead to a new paradigm in data science which include:

  • Why query for information when you can query for insights?
  • How to change the paradigm of querying by querying for insights rather than information.
  • How would you know that your analysis is complete?
  • Can you explain your data and insights for actionability?
  • How to find only the really interesting insights in time series data?
  • How to automate a lot with data science?
