Big Announcement: Late Submissions now allowed on DataHack’s Hackathons!

Ankit Choudhary 08 Jun, 2020 • 2 min read

Introduction

Analytics Vidhya launched the first online hackathons back in 2015, 5 years ago! Our hackathon platform, DataHack, has emerged as a community and industry favorite platform for participating and organizing global online hackathons respectively.

The DataHack community is today 250,000 strong with data scientists, data analysts & machine learning engineers globally participating in hackathons, getting hired in their dream companies, or learning from code and approaches of top performers.

The platform has seen close to a million submissions for various data science and machine learning challenges. Moreover, it gives me immense pleasure to see so many beginners taking their first step in real business data science problem solving via the challenges curated and listed by our team.

If you don’t know what we are talking about, check out the DataHack platform, sign up today, and participate in one of the active hackathons at this link.

What is the Late Submission Feature?

Till now, Analytics Vidhya has organized hundreds of hackathons and we have seen a lot of submissions from our users. One thing that has been in demand from our users is to be able to download the datasets and make a submission at a hackathon even after the contest is over. This provides an opportunity to all users to be a part of the hackathon even though they were not able to participate during the hackathon.

This means irrespective of when the hackathon was organized, you can participate in it today and check the performance of various models for almost all the hackathons ever organized by Analytics Vidhya. Here’s a short video to demonstrate how this works:

So if you missed out on the recent JanataHack or want to go back and try out your latest learnings on the previous Lord of the Machines Hackathon, you can do it now!

Let’s look at some FAQs related to this new Late Submission Feature

Q. Can I make a late submission and still receive a ranking for performance?

A. Most hackathons would allow you to submit afterward. And you’ll see your private rank and where you would have ended up on the leaderboard. You can always look at the “My Submission” tab and see your scores for both the Public and Private leaderboard.

Q. Would my late submission be eligible for AV Points?

A. Late submission would not be eligible for AV Points as these are subject to your performance during the hackathon in a time-bounded setting.

Q. If I participated in a hackathon event during its designated duration, does that mean I can’t make a late submission?

A. You can always make a submission to the closed hackathon as a late submission. However, your leaderboard rank will be fixed once the contest has ended. You will still get a score and private leaderboard rank to check the performance of your models that you might not have been able to check during the hackathon.
