DataHour: Best of Pandas & The Power of Simple Models

We all use pandas for many purposes. Be it data exploration or an intense analysis or pre processing for our modeling. Importing pandas is almost inevitable (unless some special case) for a Data Scientist or a Data Analyst working with python. Yet we have not uncovered its best. Let alone the best, we rarely write our pandas code in a way that is easy to read & is idiomatic. 

In this DataHour, Vasudev will discuss the best practices, powerful features / tricks and an idiomatic way to use pandas for our daily practices. In the age of deep learning & tensorflow, he will explain the applicability and effectiveness of simple models and how the hype around deep learning is sometimes not just frivolous but dangerous. We all want to implement complex neural network architectures & get carried away by the paraphernalia around them. We often don't spend time thinking about the problem at hand & how to approach it. We tend to rush towards models and neural networks hence in this session he will demonstrate how sometimes complex problems could be solved with simple models.

Prerequisites: Basic understanding of python, pandas, python & modeling and interest in Data Science.

Vasudev is currently working as a Lead Data Scientist at a leading analytics consulting firm based in Gurugram. He holds 8+ years of experience in the industry. Apart from that he is also a teaching faculty for many Data Science subjects and a Data Science, software development, Business Intelligence consultant to a startup based out of IIT Delhi.
