India's Energy Transition: Simulating Delhi's Grid with PLEXOS

About the Event

India has committed to achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and net-zero by 2070. But what does this transition look like in practice for a real utility?

In this session, we explore a real-world power planning model for a Delhi DISCOM, analyzing generation assets, storage systems, and demand patterns to understand the economics driving the transition. We examine how factors like solar + battery costs, coal pricing, and demand curves shape energy decisions in one of the world’s most complex power systems.

We then extend this analysis using GenAI techniques, including natural language interfaces, simulation-driven workflows, and agent-based interactions. You’ll see how AI can transform simulation data into actionable insights through automated scenario exploration, multi-agent negotiation, and forecasting approaches .

This is a hands-on, interdisciplinary session designed to demonstrate how simulation, time-series modeling, and GenAI come together to solve large-scale, real-world problems.

Key Takeaways:

  • Energy Transition Economics – understanding cost dynamics of solar, storage, and traditional energy
  • Power System Simulation – working with real-world grid models and demand data
  • GenAI in Simulation – integrating LLMs with simulation tools and workflows
  • Agent-Based Systems – using multi-agent interactions for decision-making
  • Scenario Exploration – automating 'what-if' analysis using AI
  • Cross-Domain Applications – applying these patterns to finance, logistics, and other industries
