We all know AI is rapidly changing the job landscape across industries. But while everyone is well aware of the changing tides, neither the companies nor the aspirants fully understand the transitioning job profiles. Enter OpenAI – the company at the forefront of AI innovation. It now plans to revolutionise the job market with a new job portal and certification program.
For this, OpenAI has made two new announcements – OpenAI Jobs Platform and OpenAI Certifications. The initiatives have been underlined in a new blog by OpenAI CEO of Applications, Fidji Simo. As per Simo, the new OpenAI initiatives will “help more people become fluent in AI and connect them with companies that need their skills.” In short, these will “give people more economic opportunities.”
Though still under work, here is what each of the OpenAI platforms is bringing to the table.
Like a typical job portal, OpenAI’s new Jobs Platform is meant to help connect employers with the right employees. But since it comes from the house of OpenAI, expect everything to be AI-related here. In fact, the company clearly mentions this in its blog that the candidates “fluent in AI” can expect to find jobs through the OpenAI Jobs Platform.
At the moment, there is little to know about how the job portal will operate. Though OpenAI has shared some generic information about it. In addition to the AI-specificity in job profiles, it says that the platform will use AI to perfectly match the needs of the employers and candidates. OpenAI claims to have much on offer on both fronts. “Knowledgeable, experienced candidates at every level” for the companies, as well as “opportunities for anyone looking to put their skills to use.”
An important distinction here is that OpenAI plans to cater to businesses of all sizes through its Jobs Platform. Even for local businesses and governments, the platform will have a dedicated track to find the best AI talent. An example, the Texas Association of Business wants to use the OpenAI platform. The idea is “to connect thousands of Texas employers with talented people who can help them modernize their businesses.”
Whether a business uses OpenAI’s new Jobs Platform or not, AI serves as an absolute must for hirings today. This is where OpenAI’s next initiative comes into play.
OpenAI identified that companies need to trust “that candidates are actually fluent in AI.” As most companies find AI at the centre of their future operations, they require candidates who know how to use the latest AI tools. Enter, OpenAI Certifications.
An extension of OpenAI Academy, the new Certifications program will offer certifications “for different levels of AI fluency.” The certifications will range from the basics of using AI at work to AI-custom jobs and prompt engineering.
What’s even more interesting is that OpenAI plans to use AI in order to teach these AI skills to candidates. The certifications will be available within ChatGPT’s Study Mode. Even companies will be able to design their own learning and development programs using the certifications.
Both OpenAI Jobs Platform and OpenAI Certifications are currently under development. So, not much is known about their availability and accessibility as yet. Once the Jobs Platform is live, we can expect it as a new option within the ChatGPT app and website.
As for Certifications, OpenAI says that it will be embedded within ChatGPT’s Study Mode. Interested candidates can prepare for the certifications within the Study Mode, and even carry them out to completion within the app. This means OpenAI Certifications will be an embedded feature within ChatGPT once it is live.
There is a chance that both features will roll out in the United States first. As OpenAI mentions, these initiatives come as a part of its commitment to “the White House’s efforts toward expanding AI literacy.” If so, it won’t be a surprise if the features debut in the US and eventually roll out to the rest of the world.
There is absolutely no doubt that OpenAI’s new initiatives will spark a revolution in the job market across the globe. With companies vying for AI-skilled labour, such a jobs platform by the most credible name in the AI industry is sure to attract both talent and recruiters alike. And to top it all, OpenAI’s Certifications will act as the perfect medium to differentiate the skilled AI workforce, while providing others a chance to up their AI game for better economic opportunities.
OpenAI says that it will attempt to certify “10 million Americans by 2030” through its Certifications program. For this, it has partnered with major private employers like Walmart. As and when the new platforms by OpenAI become accessible to the public, such opportunities will increase rapidly as AI takes the centrestage across industries.
