Meta AI

What is Meta AI?

Meta AI is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Meta Platforms. It’s essentially a LLM that allows users to have conversations and explore various ideas.

  • Conversational AI: Meta AI can engage in open ended chats on a wide range of topics. You can ask it questions, get creative with it by requesting poems or code generation, or simply explore interesting thought experiments.
  • Informational Assistant: It can also act as a helpful information source, answering your questions in a comprehensive way (currently in English only).
  • Platform Agnostic (Testing Phase): While currently being rolled out in India on WhatsApp, Meta is testing Meta AI across its suite of products including Instagram and Messenger. On these platforms, you can interact with it through direct messaging features, similar to other AI assistants like ChatGPT or Gemini. There, it can provide links to relevant search results and sources for its answers.
  • Privacy Focused: Meta emphasizes that Meta AI only accesses chats specifically mentioning “@MetaAI” and your personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted for maximum security.
  • Learning and Improvement: Meta AI actively seeks user feedback to improve its responses. You can rate its responses as “Good” or “Bad” and provide reasons to help it learn and grow.

Meta AI on WhatsApp

Getting started with Meta AI on WhatsApp is simple. Look for the new icon in the top right corner of your WhatsApp chat list (available to select users for now). Just tap the icon, choose a suggested prompt or type your own question, and hit send. Meta AI will respond in English, keeping your conversation secure with end-to-end encryption – just like your regular WhatsApp chats.

Meta AI on WhatsApp

Meta is launching a beta feature allowing the USA WhatsApp users to generate images in real-time simply by typing a text prompt. As you describe what you want (eg, “Imagine a soccer game on Mars”), the AI instantly adjusts the image, letting you visualize your ideas.

This feature, powered by Meta’s improved image generation model (Llama 3), also creates sharper images and handles text better. You can even animate your creations into GIFs! This real-time image generation is available not just on WhatsApp, but also through Meta AI for the web in the US, marking a wider integration of AI features across Meta’s platforms.

Meta AI on Instagram and Messenger

On Instagram, you can access Meta AI through the direct messaging feature. Just tap the Meta AI icon in the search bar and interact with the chatbot directly, similar to popular AI assistants like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. Meta AI functions as a general-purpose assistant, answering a wide range of questions including real-time information. Along with the answer, it provides a link to relevant Google search results and footnotes the sources used for its response.
